Personal Reflection 2026.03.27

Personal Reflection Yu Borui 2026.03.27 For the two readings, I found it important to combine technologies and climate education together. One idea is to teach them how to correctly use technological tools, another idea is to let them know that technology is bringing new problems although it is helpful to our daily life, and what really matters is how to critically take its advantages and reduce its negative effects, not only to our usage, but also to the clamite. Just like the conversation I had with our classmates, I did not know that AI tools can make serious pollutions based on the generation length and frequency. I am sure that most of the students are not aware of the problem as well. So, it's important to tell them the potential drawbacks brought by the technology and how it might be hurtful to the world. When conducting the instruction for climate education, we have several ways to implement it. The first one would be connecting the technology and the climate education toge...

Annotated Bibliography 2026.03.27

Annotated Bibliography Yu Borui 2026.03.27 For this week's reading, I focused on the two articles, one is "Surveying ecolinguistics" written by Steffensen and another one is "Climate change education" written by Lourdu. I am more than glad to read articles that can guide people to pat special attention to climate change education since the global temperature is rising, and AI tools are causing damage to our earth. Suryati, S., Pangga, D., Habibi, H., & Azmi, I. (2025). Digital pedagogical model based on climate change issues integrated with virtual reality technology to enhance students’ critical thinking and climate change awareness. International Journal of Ethnoscience and Technology in Education , 2(1), 1–28.  https://doi.org/10.33394/ijete.v2i1.14054 Scholars have pointed out that s tudents can understand the abstract concept of climate change more easily than traditional classrooms through immersive virtual situations (such as climate disaster simulati...

2026.03.20 - Chapter 10 from Chapelle and Sauro

Chapter 10. Distance Language Teaching with Technology Yu Borui 2026.03.20 Introduction In the past two decades, dispersed populations of learners had more and more opportunities for language learning under the innovation of technology. The form and scale of distance language teaching with technology have expended as well.      The development of distance language teaching with technology represents a fundamental shift. Previously, we mainly focused on methods of producing and distributing learning materials for independent learning (Like CD-ROM and broadcast education, or cassette tape), but we can barely see those materials now. Nowadays, the language teaching method tends to be more contemporary, which focused more on interaction, communication, collaboration and group activities in the virtual learning environment. Meanwhile, technologies such as interactive multifunctional medias are also applied in the classes. Technology is no longer only used for distribution...

Personal Reflection 2026.03.15

Personal Reflection 2026.03.15 Yu Borui For the reading this week, I focused on the article titled "Assessing language learning in virtual exchange:  suggestions from the field of language assessment ", which showed several things that should be noticed by the teachers when conducting assessments for the language comprehension in virtual exchanges. I found it interesting and useful to enhance my knowledge in virtual learning assessment —— "how to assess learners' acquisition correctly and effectively". For me, the assessment for online participation and language acquisition should not fully emphasize the students' learning outcome, but should focus on their behaviours and willingness to take part in communications as well. Measurable outcomes such as test scores or completed tasks may not fully explain the complexity of language development. Language acquisition is a gradual and dynamic process, which is strongly influenced by learners’ motivation and intera...

Annotated Bibliography 2026.03.15 Yu Borui For this week's reading, I mainly focused on Lee and Sauro's " Assessing language learning in virtual exchange ". Helm, F., & van der Velden, B. (2019). Erasmus + Virtual Exchange 2018 impact report. Publications Office of the European  Union. https://doi.org/10.2797/668291 The European Commision's project Erasmus+ Virtual Exchange, together with the research guidelines developed by the US-based Stevens Initiative, emphasizes that virtual exchange extends beyond the development of linguistic/disciplinary skills, and focus more on the cultivation of global competences. Many of the necessary skills that can be applied in 21st century are included in the competence collection, such as cross-cultural communication, cooperation, critical thinking and so on. O’Dowd & T. Lewis (Eds), Online intercultural exchange: policy, pedagogy, practice (pp. 21-66). Routledge. Lewis and O'Dowd(2016) systematically reviewed the ...

2026.03.07 Personal Reflection

Personal Reflection 2026.03.07 Yu Borui After reading articles related to AI previously, the articles this week interest me a lot. I think that it is important to keep a balance between the usage of AI and its ethical issues. After reading those articles, I have found several methods to use AI correctly. When talking about how people are using AI nowadays, it's quite critical. As I know, most of my college classmates used AI simply as a digital tool for them to finish their work as soon as possible instead of using it to gather information and comprehensively combine useful materials to enhance their learning progress and outcome. They used AI to complete tasks for the classes, even for the tests. This directly lead to the bad consequence that the teacher couldn't track their proficiency for the class, as well as the academic honesty. This will only cause more arduous and complicated work to the teachers.  Trust and honesty should be a crucial factor for people to use AI correc...

2026.03.07 Annotated Bibliography

Annotated Bibliography 2026.03.07 Yu Borui For the reading this week, I mainly focused on the article titled "AI Perils in Education: Exploring Ethical Concerns" written by Salloum. In this article, the author mentioned several ethical issues faced by the users of AI tools. Marr, B. (2022).  Will artificial intelligence replace teachers? In this article, Marr stated an idea that AI will not replace teachers, but as a tool to help teachers provide a more personalized learning experience and reduce the administrative burden on teachers. Its functions such as increasing the accessibility of education could help teachers track their students' learning progress as well. Yet there can be some ethical issues. Madaio, M., Blodgett, S. L., Mayfield, E., & Dixon-Román, E. (2022). Beyond “fairness”: Structural (in)justice lenses on AI for education. In  The Ethics of Artificial Intelligence in Education  (pp. 203–239). Routledge. The research showed one of the serious problems f...
