Today, I read the articles related to gamification, AI and language learning. As a gamer, I feel it creative and interesting for the author to summarize the points to show that gamification with AI applied in the language learning actually plays an important role in the learning progress.

I think one of the many reasons that most of the people love playing games is because of the sense of getting rewards. When we are playing games, we look for a fierce victory after trying hard in the whole match. And this is also the most important factor when games and language learning are combined, it's the reason why this pattern is considered as an innovative method. It cleverly turns the problems that may be encountered in language learning into temporary setbacks that may be encountered in the game, and once the learn overcomes that difficulty, he will get a sense of achievement and further promote his/her motivition for learning. I would regard it as a virtuous cycle.

But there are several things that should be noticed when conduct gamification in language learning. The first thing is that it will require teacher's attention to student's individualized requirements so that they can make studying more effective and targeted. The second thing is that emphasize the gamification itself might decrease the students' critical thinking ability and problem-solving ability, it is because that the learners might depend too much on notification and structural tasks provided by AI, instead of developing individual language learning strategies. The pattern needs a balance between participation-based gamification and meaningful cognition tasks, this is an important way to ensure students' development in both fluency and critical thinking abilities.

As for the prospect of the gamification focused on language learning, I regard this as an innovative tool for digital natives, when combined with their hobbies, it must be more effective for their learning progress. But it is a double-edged sword, with its development, we should pay special attention about its deviation from real context because it must meet the needs for daily communications.

Yu Borui Annotated Bibliography 2026.02.05 For this week's reading, I mainly focused on New perspectives of L2 acquisition related to human-computer interaction (HCI) written by Meunier.  According to Song et al., while voice-activated AI assistants are highly effective at processing spoken commands from native speakers, they are far less effective when the commands are given by second-language speakers. The accuracy for a second language learner is approximately 55 percent whereas the one for a native speaker rise to around 98 percent. Despite functional fluency in a second language, subtle but significant pronunciation difficulties may persist, impacting human-computer cognition. However, this also proves that speech AI can also serve as a teaching tool for learning and improving second language pronunciation. Annotated Bibliography 2026.02.14 Yu Borui For this week's reading, I mainly focused on Chen et al.'s article, t his article introduced the application of AI technologies in second language learning.  The author emphasizes the importance of balancing AI with traditional teaching methods and using these tools responsibly in language education.
